In this day and age, print and media are an important aspect of our everyday life. It is an important tool which helps people expand their businesses and reach out to their consumers. When people are making use of these mediums, they must carefully consider their strategies and choose the best product in order to maximise the effectiveness. One option when considering these mediums is the DL Card. DL Cards give an elegant makeover to your flyers, brochures and leaflets. They are slim and tall, making them the perfect material to be used as pamphlets. The design itself is eye-catching and does command the attention of would-be customers.

So what exactly are DL Cards?

DL Cards are a form of paper/card, which are defined by their size. The size is more commonly known as DL size. DL size measure exactly 99mm x 210mm, thereby making it exactly one-third of the A4 form of paper. They are the standard size of cards for personal envelopes, invitations and for promotional materials like leaflets, flyers and brochures. The term DL is an abbreviation of Dimension Lengthwise.

For a simple explanation, DL Cards can be compared to other cards in the following way:

• DL is lesser in width in comparison to A6, yet it is longer than it.
• It is lesser in width than A5, but it is of the exact same length.
• In comparison to A4 paper, it is exactly a third of that.
• DL is one sixth of the size of A3 paper.
• It is one-twelfth of the size of A2 paper.
• A1 paper is 32 times bigger than DL.
• A0 paper is 64 times bigger than DL.

In addition to these more specific measurements it is also the perfect size to fit into letterboxes as it was designed to fit into a letter. Most letters come in DLE size (the ‘E’ being for Envelope) and so the DL card fits perfectly into it. This is why (along with A5) Real estate agents use it to such good effect. It is also the preferred size for rack stands and hence can sometimes be referred to as ‘Rackcards’.

We can see that the common DL Card is an extremely versatile advertising material and is designed to be a derivative of the ‘A’ standard paper size i.e A3, A4 etc. It is used by a large number of industries to great effect and is the card of choice for doing business by post. Perhaps it is something that could be considered next time you are looking at a cost effective way to make your advertising budget go that little bit further…
